Classical versus Operant Conditioning
Learning Objective
I can compare and contrast classical and operant conditioning.
Key Concepts
In classical conditioning, a previously neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus when paired with an unconditioned stimulus, leading to a conditioned response.
Operant conditioning uses reinforcement to increase the likelihood of a behavior and punishment to decrease it.
Positive reinforcement involves the addition of a desirable stimulus, while negative reinforcement involves the removal of an undesirable stimulus.
