Key Concepts

Indicator words can help identify the logical relationship between claims in an argument, with words like 'therefore' indicating a conclusion and words like 'because' indicating a premise.

When arguments lack indicator words, determine the conclusion by identifying the main point the arguer is trying to convey; supporting reasons are the premises.

To analyze an argument, ask yourself, 'What claim am I being asked to believe or accept?' and 'What reasons are being offered to support that claim?' to distinguish between premises and the conclusion.
