Forces Transfer Energy

6th Gradeβ€’50 minutesβ€’DEFINITIONS OF ENERGY An object or system of objects may also contain stored (potential) energy, depending on their relative positions. (MS.PS3A.b) RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENERGY AND FORCES When two objects interact, each one exerts a force on the other that can cause energy to be transferred to or from the object. (MS.PS3C.a)

Learning Objective

I can describe how forces can transfer energy between objects.

Key Concepts

When objects are touching, there is an electromagnetic force between them, and as one slides on top of the other, it generates a frictional force.

Objects don't have to be touching to exert forces due to gravitational, magnetic, or electric fields.

When two objects interact, each exerts a force on the other that can cause energy to be transferred.
