After Muhammad's death, Abu Bakr, Muhammad’s old friend, was named Khalifa tul Rasool Allah, which means “Successor to the Prophet of Allah”.

Abu Bakr consolidated power over Arabia, canonized Islam by converting the Qur’an into book form, and sent Khalid ibn Al-Walid with an army towards Mesopotamia to engage with the Sassanid Persian Empire.

Umar captured significant areas including Syria, Persia, and Egypt, and is remembered for his tolerance, establishing the Bayt al-Mal to help the needy, and supporting free trade.
