Exploring Elements of Fiction
Learning Objective
I can define and identify the key elements of fiction in a short story.
Key Concepts
The five major story elements are character, setting, plot, conflict, and theme.
Characters are the who of a story, the setting is the where and when, and the plot relates to the events that happen.
Conflict can be external, such as a hero battling a foe, or internal, where a character struggles with their own beliefs; the theme is the underlying message of the story.
