Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Regrouping

6th Gradeβ€’55 minutes

Learning Objective

I can subtract mixed numbers with regrouping.

Key Concepts

When subtracting mixed fractions using regrouping, you must borrow 1 from the whole number and rewrite it as a fraction with the same denominator.

To convert a mixed fraction to an improper fraction, multiply the denominator by the whole number, then add the numerator.

When subtracting mixed fractions, both regrouping and converting to improper fractions will give you the same answer, so choose the method you find easiest.
