Solving Algebraic Expressions

7th Grade25 minutes

Learning Objective

I can write and solve algebraic expressions with one variable.

Key Concepts

In algebraic word problems, we assign variables to represent unknown quantities and construct equations to represent the relationships between them.

If there are three brothers whose ages are consecutive multiples of three and the sum of their ages is thirty-six, we can represent their ages as X, X + 3, and X + 6.

When solving algebraic word problems, the trickier part is constructing the equations from the given information, while solving them is the easier part.
