Atoms and Elements
Learning Objective
I can describe the basic structure of atoms and how they relate to elements.
Key Concepts
Atoms are the fundamental building blocks of chemistry, and matter is made of different types of atoms called elements.
Elements cannot be broken down further through chemical reactions, and under the right conditions, elements can react with each other to form new substances with new properties.
When two elements react to form multiple compounds, they do so in small whole number ratios, suggesting elements are made of tiny indivisible units called atoms.
