Air Pressure and Wind

6th Grade60 minutes6.ess2.1

Learning Objective

I can describe how local and global winds are created by differences in air pressure.

Key Concepts

Wind is described by the direction it is coming from. A sea breeze comes from the sea.

During the day, land heats faster than water, causing air to rise and creating high pressure aloft that flows toward the sea.

At night, the land cools faster than the water, reversing the process and creating a land breeze as air flows from the land to the sea.
